This kid’s doing SOMETHING right if he’s an inspiration to athletes older than he is!
It never occurred to him that a serious birth defect should keep him from being successful in competitive sports. Including hockey and rugby!
Gabe Ferron-Bouius was diagnosed at birth with a rare condition called fibular hemimelia, the shortening or absence of a fibula, which didn’t allow his right foot and ankle to develop properly. As a result, Gabe had his foot removed and his heel pad attached to his tibia, and he was fitted for a prosthetic leg before his first birthday.
Someone in the 67’s organization read the story and approached head coach André Tourigny about the possibility of inviting Gabe to practice. Tourigny was completely on board, saying it would good for both the young netminder and the 67’s.
“He’s a really good example of determination,” Tourigny said. “He’s faced some obstacles in life and he’s battled through and he persevered. It’s great for our team, for our players, to see that. To hear about his approach and how he’s never backed down from anything. That’s a super example of determination.

And of course, you want to know… how did he do?
“He actually really impressed me. It’s awesome. There’s nothing you can’t do in life and he’s a perfect example. I don’t see a difference,” 67’s netminder Olivier Tremblay said.
“He looked confident. He’s got good tracking, he’s a big boy. He just made some awesome saves. I think he can be good and he can play (Ontario Hockey League) in the future, for sure.”

In case you missed that, the kid has a prosthetic leg… and is STILL excelling as a goalie. He’s not playing in sledge hockey or a special segregated league for people with disabilities.
He’s in the regular league for kids his age. And he’s crushing it! He has hopes of advancing to the higher levels, too!
One thing we can tell you, he’s got the right attitude for sure!
Keep dreaming big, Gabe! You just might make it to the big leagues!
Here’s a shirt for real men (and women, too):
Why be average? It’s so overrated.
Everyone does that.
If you don’t think so, add some more meat to your diet and read this while you wait for your steak to grill:
Does your grandpa go off on paltry politicians, whether they be Democrats or Republicans? Does he get misty eyed when he talks about God and Country and America’s future? And have you ever heard him scream, ‘Awww … Hell no!’ when Rosie O’Donnell starts yapping on television? If you answered yes to one, or all of the above, then your gramps will love Doug Giles’ latest book, My Grandpa Is A Patriotic Badass.
Don’t be fooled by the title — this ain’t just for Grandpa.
The Snowflake Generation — and the rest of America — needs a good ol’ dose of ‘Grandpa wisdom’.
Especially if that Grandpa is Doug Giles.
You’ll love My Grandpa Is A Patriotic Badass just as much as Grandpa will.
