These brothers got real lucky…
With a little hard work!
Luke Almos, 16, and Andrew Almos, 14, managed to take down a bull elk each while hunting with their father, Travis, on Nov. 21, 2015, in the Bear Paw Mountains.
“The morning of the first day of our hunt was absolutely beautiful,” said Travis. “Even though it still was extremely cold and there was a lot of wind blowing in our faces we continued to put on the miles in search of our elusive bulls.”
The three of them hiked across three ridges over a four-hour span but only came across mule bucks and does. Travis felt that he and his sons weren’t going to find any elk any time soon, if at all.
Then, they got their first break; the wind changed and blew the elk’s scent to them.
Travis thought that following the ridge line straight ahead to cut them off would be the best option, but Luke suggested following the tracks west. “It turned out to be a good choice and I am glad I listened to him,” said Travis.
