And loyal to the end.
At just four months old, Nora Hall suffered a stroke that shut down both sides of her brain and crippled her nervous system.
Despite weeks of intensive care, doctors at Minneapolis’ Children’s Hospital have come to the conclusion that she will not survive her injuries.
Her parents Mary and John have taken the painful decision to unplug her life support. The longer she stays alive, the closer she gets to a traumatic and fatal heart attack.
But throughout the devastating few weeks, Mr and Mrs Hall have captured a beautiful show of support – from their eight-year-old basset hounds.
Mary shared a picture on Facebook of the two dogs with Nora, who is in a medically-induced coma, saying she can sense they are ‘stressed and sad’.
Thanks to the leniency of their doctors, the family has been allowed to keep the dogs in the room with Nora, dwarfing her tiny little body.
