The story of this fur seal is scandalous.
And, no, we’re not referring to what actually happened to the seal.
We’re referring to how the press labeled the criminal that did this as an “fisherman” without having any proof whatsoever.
It’s like calling a poacher a “hunter!”
Who would do this? Fur seal is left to die in agony after a cruel fisherman lodged rammed a harpoon into his back
A barbaric attack on an Australian fur seal left him fighting for life, after a meter-long harpoon that was used to stab him twice got lodged in between his shoulder blades.
The seal was found at a channel marker in Port Phillip Bay, near Melbourne, on Saturday, Victorian wildlife officers say he was lucky to be alive.
Sarah Frith from the AGL Marine Response Unit veterinarian, was disturbed by the attack which left a meter-long harpoon sticking out from one of the animal’s wounds.
The seal was taken to Melbourne Zoo for treatment following its rescue.
‘We were able to successfully remove the harpoon head from the animal and provide it with pain relief and antibiotics to help it recover overnight,’ Ms Frith said.
