It was 45 years ago this week that the Oregon State Highway Department took a huge problem and made it worse.

A lot worse.

Like, a lot, lot worse.

When a 45-foot, 8-ton whale washed up on shore near Florence, Oregon on November 12, 1970, authorities thought the best way to deal with the massive beach litter was to blow it up utilizing a half ton of dynamite.
